Small plate, unique piece - Desirode & un air de thé collection

Uchilla plates (Uchilla means small in the Quechua language) are handcrafted ceramics. The small plate is made pinched in white or black stoneware, meaning that the ceramist does not use a wheel to shape her works.

The creations developed by Desirode for the Maison de thé un air de thé come from stoneware clays with their original colors that have not been modified. She takes great care to use natural products for their finishing, in particular by recycling ashes from Bordeaux fireplaces to create the recipes.

Dimensions of the small stoneware plate:

about 9 cm

Who is the ceramic and visual artist Desirode?

Behind Desirode is the visual artist Désirée Castillo.
Born in 1979 in the port city of Guayaquil, Ecuador, this passionate woman studied art, law, and psychology, but it was architecture that led her to Bordeaux.
Her handcrafted ceramics are inspired by ancient civilizations, particularly pre-Incan ones. Working with the earth here takes on the appearance of archaeological digs: Désirode recycles ashes from Bordeaux homes to create these everyday objects; she also sources the earth from France. The Matcha bowls, cups, and other tea accessories created in collaboration with Tea sommelier Grégory Lehoux are made from clays drawn from Burgundy for the red earth, and the black and white stoneware is of Norman origin.
All ceramics are unique objects, shaped by hand using ancient know-how.
