Here's a place with a big heart! Marc, Pierrette, and Jolan, cat lovers, have decided to work for the well-being of these little furballs! A carefully thought-out cat bar and foster family project in partnership with an animal protection association, the Vénus association. Located at 16 quai de Bacalan in Bordeaux, Les Ronrons des Chartrons invites you to enjoy a moment of relaxation: comfortably settled in comfortable sofas and armchairs, you can sip a tea, taste little cakes prepared by Pierrette, and meet endearing cats who are just waiting for your attention!

1- What is a cat cafe? A concept that came straight from Asia in the 90s!
Tracy Zhan opened the Cat Flower Garden in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1998. Her cat café concept spread to Korea and then became a hit in Japan! It's no wonder the land of Maneki Neko—the famous lucky cat that beckons you to come closer. Today, there are about 150 Neko cafés (cat cafés) in Japan. In exchange for an entrance fee, customers spend time petting cats while sipping tea or coffee.

It wasn't until the 2010s that the concept arrived in Europe. The first establishment opened in Vienna in 2012, and in Paris in 2013!

2- The success of cat cafes is linked to “Purron Therapy”.
Purr therapy is serious business! Toulouse veterinarian Jean-Yves Gauchet is behind this concept. Author of the book "My cat and I, we're taking care of ourselves" published in 2012 by Le Courrier du Livre, he discusses the therapeutic virtues of purring... These sound vibrations are also felt by sensory receptors located under our skin (Pacinian corpuscles). The purring of our friends thus triggers the secretion of serotonin or endorphin, pain-relieving, soothing and relaxing hormones...

3- In Bordeaux, Les Ronrons des Chartrons is the only cat bar open for adoption!
It's a unique cat bar in Bordeaux: Les Ronrons des Chartrons is a foster family for the Bordeaux animal protection association called Vénus . Founded in 2007 by Didier Talou and Laurent Blanchard, Vénus helps abandoned or mistreated cats, dogs, and other pets. Once cared for, dewormed, vaccinated, and sterilized, these little creatures are placed in foster homes and await their future adopters.

4- A tea room like at grandma’s in Bordeaux
A decor sourced by Pierrette and Marc: the result is ultra-comfortable armchairs, cute placemats, and floral tea sets... A very cozy "at grandma's" atmosphere for lunch or spending the afternoon sipping tea and tasting Pierrette's wonderful pastries. A 100% vegetarian & vegan menu.
